Intro
So I think I’m going to do it.
NaBloWriMo that is.
I know you are probably as shocked as I am.
“She’s going to write a new post everyday for a month? She barely manages to squeak out one a week.”
First of all – don’t be so rude. Secondly, I’m crazy. Crazy and wanting a challenge – because apparantly raising two young boys, getting settled into a new home, laundry and working on other “side” projects aren’t enough.
The reality is I want to push myself to write more, eat more, cook more, photograph more and to create more of a community within Not Without Salt.
I do feel bad for those of you who have subscribed to my RSS feed because you will most likely get sick of me. But I assure you this high amount of posts are sure to last for only one month.
I’m so excited to see how it will cause me to grow and (hopefully) improve. To become better at something it seems as if it has to become daily practice to the point where it becomes as natural as breathing. I know that one month won’t get me to that point, a lifetime is often not long enough, but to inch slightly toward that goal is more than enough for me.
Learning takes work and one must stretch themselves to grow – and for me this will be a stretch.
My initial thoughts are to organize the month by breaking it down by weeks. Each week I will work exclusively with one ingredient and show many different applications for that ingredient – sweet, savory, cocktail, candy.
I do however reserve the right to change my mind and post on whatever the heck I feel like. I’m not great with structure and I tend to change my mind frequently.
So who’s with me?
I hope you’ll follow along and encourage me along the way. Your comments mean the world to me!
Is anyone else crazy enough to participate in NaBloWriMo with me?
if by participate you mean read your posts and perhaps sample your recipes, then I am IN, mommie!!
Okay you’ve inspired me! I’ve been meaning to start my own food blog for ages, this is the push I need. And I’m looking forward to reading your posts!
I don’t have a blog, so can’t join you, but I’ll look forward to your daily posts!
Huh. At least you know how insane this is. Of course, there’s nothing more exhilarating than upping the velocity on life when you’re already going over the speed limit. By the time Thanksgiving has passed and December arrives, you’ll feel like you’re floating on a slow moving cloud, which will be a very peaceful ride indeed.
I’ll consider it today, but I can’t commit for sure (until I see if I can actually post today. I haven’t posted in 2 weeks!) Either way, I’ll drop in to see how you’re doing. Good luck to Ms. NwS- I know we’ll enjoy the ride!
Wow. very cool! I’ll do it too. We can cheer each other on!!
I think I’m going to try it too! I just started a food blog myself, and I’m trying really hard to make myself write at least a few times a week. Every day for a month???? I must be crazy. But it will be good for me and hopefully get me more consistent traffic. Let’s go!
Yee ha! I did NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) a few years back and it was INSANE. I think the requirement was to type 50,000 words within the month of November, which was awesome and awesomely difficult. I hit 50,000, but my novel’s quality went steadily down after the first few weeks as I scrambled to simply keep in the game.
Good luck to you! I’m one of those poor souls on your RSS feed, so I’ll be seeing them all.
Thanks for writing about this – I didn’t even know it existed until I read your post. Now I’m in!
I don’t think I can make myself commit to participating, but I’m looking forward to reading *your* participation! I recently discovered this blog and am incredibly inspired by it. If my blog was ever a fraction as amazing as yours is, I’d be thrilled (I fully realize that I need to buy a real camera, first!).
Definitely an impressive task to take on. I really like your concept of working with one ingredient per week, it makes sense and could be really interesting and amazing. Although unplanned posts could be brilliant too, (its hard to ignore inspiration when it hits you.) The daily posting/food projects could really lead from one thing to another in unpredictable ways that will both surprise and inspire.
I’m sure it will be fabulous. Looking forward to reading next month’s bounty of posts!
Yes, a little crazy. but here’s another RSS subscriber who’s looking forward to it. . . Haven’t commented before, but I’m a seattle reader who very much enjoys what you’re doing here.
Don’t think I can keep up with such a posting schedule right now personally, but I’ve been intrigued by the idea and the challenge. Perhaps you can give us all some inspiriation! Good luck.
I am so impressed! I love you zest for challenges lately, I find it very encouraging. I am not in a place where I could do this, but someday! I look forward to reading yours!
I’m with you. Am posting on my blog daily this month in lieu of doing Nanowrimo this year. Looking forward to reading your posts 🙂
Cait
Ooooooo, DAILY blog posts from you? I CAN’T WAIT! This is too exciting…I love your blog so this is Just. Awesome. News.
Was that encouraging enough? 😉
Rachel – That was fantastic encouragement. Thanks for the boost of confidence!
I’m doing NaNoWriMo and blogging and caring for 2 kids under 3 so I am equally crazy. But hey, it will make us stronger and better!
I can’t believe I am going to be on board… but, what is life without a challenge? It is not as if I already have my hands full with full time classed at University, taking care of two dogs, two cats, three snakes and a tortoise, my house and my yard, working at a garden centre and studying my face off, why not push myself just that EXTRA bit and write a blog post everyday? I am not saying I won’t give up out of exhaustion, or hire someone to dictate to… but I am going to try, and I will try and succeed! Good luck to all those other brave souls out there willing to get a little crazy! Is it ok if I am a day late? Hope so….
I’m so encouraged by how many of you are going to join the craziness. Thank you.
I am looking forward to the flood of posts. I hope it ends up being half as much fun to write as I am certain it will be to read.
well…im in. officially signed up. but im a day behind. i guess i better start posting.
I’m on the NaBloPoMo train this month as well! Here’s to staying the course!
Good luck! I’d totally join you, but my computer still hates me. I’m going to get a spiffy new laptop right after thanksgiving and then I’m totally there!
You are a fantastic force of nature, my dear. I’m so excited to read your daily posts this month. Wish I could join you – sadly, it’s going to be a phenomenally busy month in the bankruptcy world, and since that pays the bills around here it has to take priority. But I will be cheering you on from the sidelines, and participating in A to Z when I can.
Next year…
I’m on board this month as well so looking forward to seeing how you get on – good luck!
This is definately a crazy attempt. I have three young one’s and I applaude your wonderful attempts! I always look forward to the little tasties thast you come up with. Mmmmmmmm a month’s worth. I don’t know what I am going to do with myself!
Just popping in for a word of encouragement! You go girl!
