Intro
I’d like to cash in my “Get out of Posting Free” card. Those exist right?
It’s not that I don’t have things to share. Because I do. And it’s not that I don’t want to spend time with you kind people. Because I do. It’s just that I’m so tired and I’ve sat here for more time than I care to admit trying to say what I came here to share and I’m just so gosh darn tired. Even the coffee I drank in preparation for tonight’s post isn’t keeping my eyelids propped open.
Instead I bring you this.
and this.
It’s not food but I just want to eat him up. In fact I do, on a daily basis.
So tomorrow I will return well rested and ready to finish the coffee series.
In the meantime I have a couple of items I’d like to share with you all. 1. WE’RE GOING TO NEW YORK! and by “WE” I mean my husband and I – that’s it, no little boys who are as cute as fluffy white kittens, but sometimes you need a break – even from cute fluffy kittens. So I am now opening up the flood gates ready to receive any and all recommendations on where to dine. Keep in mind I love all food – especially the sweet stuff.
2. If you live in the Seattle area get yourself down to Delancey and order up “Ashley’s Heirloom Apple Tart” – that’s me – I’m Ashley and I made some dessert – so go eat it.
3. Several people have been lusting over the Bodum Insulated cups that I’ve been serving my coffee in. I don’t blame you – they are fantastic cups. We have them in all sizes and we love them. Hot things stay hot. Cold things stay cold. It may sound like it but I am not getting paid to say this – I just really love these cups. You can get them here:
Bodum (455810US) Pavina 9-Ounce Double Wall Thermo Tumbler/Dof Glass 4 Pack
(in which case I would make a few pennies) or they sell them at many local home/kitchen stores.
I will return tomorrow with caramel and chocolate. I look forward to it. Meet me here. Tomorrow. We’ll have a mocha.
Look at that sweet face.. I just want to eat him up!
He is adorable!!!!!! Have a well-deserved break, sorry I can’t help with NY.Must get there myself first!!!
OK, we forgive you… but only because of him… 😉
Precious – and quite a fabulous hat! I can give you a few suggestions for NYC! Sweet stuff? Almondine Bakery & Milk Bar.
Get out of posting free card ACCEPTED. Your little boy is just too adorable not to! And yippee for mochas – I’m looking forward to it!
Last year in New York we went to City Bakery for the first time, and it was as good as we’d always heard. Try any tart. And it’s across the street from a marvelous children’s bookstore, Books of Wonder, where you could buy some of the all-important Presents to Bring Home.
He is too cute, the eyes are so blue and such a sweet smile! As for NYC, I’ll only mention two places or I’ll never stop writing: Momofuku Noodle Bar (the pork belly buns to die for, and as mentioned above, Milk Bar is perfect to visit after!) and also a place called the Roasting Plant, a coffee store located in the Lower East Side. I’ve never been there, but have been curious and heard that its good. Its like a coffee lab, the beans are roasted on site and you can choose different ones to be brewed together (the varieties sit in glass tubes.) Supposed to be incredibly fresh.
The best cookies in NYC are from Levain bakery, 74th st and amsterdam. The chocolate chip walnut is not to be missed.
so cute! i want to just cuddle him, this for sure counts as a post…
I literally just booked a trip to NY. Can you share the restaurant recs with us?
I went over the summer and you must find the Van Leuwen Ice Cream Truck. The homemade caramel sauce was amazing as was the hot fudge. I may have hunted down the truck more than once. Also there is an amazing gelato shop in the Lower East Side called Il Laboratorio del Gelato which is conveniently located near DBGB-easily my favorite restaurant of the trip.
Boys! Such sweetness and mischief and all things wonderful. Way to play the adorable card, my friend. Love it all, the hat is fab.
Oh, baby boys with their baby blues! Get thee to Fortunato Brothers out in fashionable Wmsburg. It’s an old school Italian pastry shop that has the best marzipan ever. And good pastries, gelato, and coffee. But I go there for the marizpan. Great shapes, beautifully painted and delicious.
I recently moved to New York and I do have some recommendations! You HAVE to visit Cafe Habana in SoHo/Nolita and try the grilled corn on the cob (a must!) and their Cuban Sandwich. Also, if the weather is nice, take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and have a scoop of ice-cream with hot fudge at the little ice-cream shop right down by the river. The hot fudge is the best I have ever had! Have a great trip!
I would love to go to Delancey, but I heard the waits are very long…Still have hopes to get there this year though. Have a good tip!
I am all about ‘the pass’…. He is getting so big and cuter by the second! I want more coffee and more photos of R!!
Is this the butter-lover? Even if he wasn’t, that smile just melt my heart as I’m sure it does to yours everyday 🙂 Enjoy your time-off from your kittens!
Danielle – I’m sure Roman loves butter too but it was my older son who was singing his praises of butter. Love my butter-lovin’ boys.
What a cute son you have! =) I’m seconding the suggestion for Cafe Habana as well — the grilled corn on the cob, YUM! Finally got to try it this summer. My husband and I ventured through Chinatown first (to get egg tarts), before walking up into SoHo. Magnolia Bakery and Serendipity 3 are touristy hits (ie. crowded), but try Bouchon Bakery esp for macarons (my current fave)!
I agree with some of the other posts. Levain bakery has the best chocolate chip walnut AND oatmeal raisin cookies – I have to fight hard to restrict myself to only 1 cookie. Cafe Habana is delicious. My other favorites are Tillman’s (26th between 6th and 7th – I think), Pio Pio (a few locations – insanely good roast chicken with ahi), and Raul’s (french bistro in SoHo). Have a wonderful visit!
Your tart was delicious. Thank you 🙂
Late to the post, but when you’re in New York go to Rocco’s Bakery on Bleecker Street (it’s west of 6th Avenue, near Murray’s cheese) and get yourself a Black and White Cookie. Best Black and Whites in NYC, I swear.
They also have excellent cannoli, filled to order.
