Late to the post, but when you're in New York go to Rocco's Bakery on Bleecker Street (it's west of 6th Avenue, near Murray's cheese) and get yourself a Black and White Cookie. Best Black and Whites in NYC, I swear.

They also have excellent cannoli, filled to order.

Danielle - I'm sure Roman loves butter too but it was my older son who was singing his praises of butter. Love my butter-lovin' boys.

I agree with some of the other posts. Levain bakery has the best chocolate chip walnut AND oatmeal raisin cookies - I have to fight hard to restrict myself to only 1 cookie. Cafe Habana is delicious. My other favorites are Tillman's (26th between 6th and 7th - I think), Pio Pio (a few locations - insanely good roast chicken with ahi), and Raul's (french bistro in SoHo). Have a wonderful visit!

What a cute son you have! =) I'm seconding the suggestion for Cafe Habana as well -- the grilled corn on the cob, YUM! Finally got to try it this summer. My husband and I ventured through Chinatown first (to get egg tarts), before walking up into SoHo. Magnolia Bakery and Serendipity 3 are touristy hits (ie. crowded), but try Bouchon Bakery esp for macarons (my current fave)!
